Ok… semi-fake news… but here’s the truth – On Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, DE, for the second year in a row, the Emerging Enterprise Center of the New Castle County Chamber partnered with New Castle County Government for their “Swim With The Sharks” Pitch Competition.
Once again, I had the privilege of photographing the luncheon.
You could sense the entrepreneurial spirit amidst the buzz of networking throughout the event.
Chamber President Bob Chadwick and EEC Program Manager Dora Cheatham
explained the process leading up to today’s finalist competition.
The panel of judges included:
Janet Reed, Sam Waltz, Dan Young and Amira Idris.
All attendees evaluated the “pitch” of the top three finalists: Amedeo DeLuca of D150, Sumedh Surwade of SAS Nanotechnologies, and Surinder Sharma of Smart Kidz Club.
Votes were tabulated by combining the vote of the judges as 85%, and the text-in votes of the audience as 15%.
County Executive Matt Meyer took part.
He’s proud of the role that New Castle County Government takes in helping promising entrepreneurs capitalize on the next great idea and achieve success.
Drumroll maestro, please!
Matt presented the winner Sumedh Surwade of SAS Nanotechnologies with a check for $10,000 prize as well as a multitude of business services valued over $6,000.
Proud moments indeed… congratulations Sumedh!

Hungry buddy? Growing up surfing in Miami, I can only imagine the number of times I was around hundreds of migrating sharks. The one beach I decided not to surf ever again is Cocoa beach! Brown water, shark infested waters with dozens of attack’s juste about this time of the year in fact. Another great spot to surround yourself with them is Reef road in West Palm beach where sharks are simply spinning in and out of the water all day long. That’s why we call them spinner sharks but those are the ones we worried about the least.
